The small town of Little River in South Carolina was shaken by a tragic incident. The unfortunate incident took place in an apartment complex swimming pool. The otherwise calm town has been reeling from water-related disasters for the last few months. Just when things were going back to normal another tragedy opened up old wounds for the residents of Little River. This time the community is mourning the loss of a forty-three-year-old man who lost his life in a swimming pool.
A resident of the town was rescued from a swimming pool in critical condition. The local authorities reached the scene, and they took prompt action. Unfortunately, the man could not be saved and was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the local hospital.

The Horry County Fire Rescue Department received a distress call on Sunday at 10:45 p.m. The call came from the Golf Colony Resort at Golf Colony Lane. The Horry County Police also rushed to the scene and arrived before the rescue team. The police found a man floating in the Baytree Golf Colony Condominiums’ swimming pool in an unconscious state. The bystanders confirmed that the man had been floating in that state for quite a while.
The responding officer did not spare another moment and “took off all duty gear and jumped in the pool in an attempt to rescue” the man. The police sent the victim to the Seacoast Medical ER, where doctors declared him dead at 11:31 p.m. Thereafter, the police sent the body to the coroner’s office to ascertain the cause of death.
According to reports on ABC 15 News, “Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner, Tamara Willard, identified the victim as Ricky Shaw, 43”. Willard confirmed that Ricky Shaw’s death did not involve any foul play. The victim was a beloved member of the community and his passing send ripples throughout the small town. This recent tragedy has reminded the town of other swimming-related accidents in the past months.

Little River confronts sudden surge in swim incidents
Last month a 54-year-old man named Jackie Merrell died in a lake in Little River. As per eyewitness reports, the man was casually swimming near the Little River Falls with his dogs and suddenly went underwater. The Cherokee County divers found his body in 15 feet of shallow waters.

Around the same time as this tragedy, another catastrophe hit the small town. A boat carrying 12 passengers on the Intracoastal Waterway in Little River capsized on July 20. Among the passengers was an 11-year-old girl who died from her injuries after the accident. The town has mourned every death and has come together to support the families affected by these heartbreaking incidents. The Little River Canyon has chronicled each drowning incident in the community since 1989. The recent upsurge in the number of swimming accidents has perplexed every resident of Little River.
