The first leg of the 2023 Swimming World Cup has already set the pool on fire. This is the last international highlight of the 2023 swimming season. Starting from Berlin to Athens, and now Budapest, terrific competitions have been witnessed in the arena. From smiling faces on the podium to determined faces for improvement, this World Cup has already seen a lot. As in any competition, the scoring system is the basis for judging the performers. Clarity on that is absolutely essential since it directly relates to the standing of the competitors.
To make it convenient for the viewers, after the end of day 3 heats, World Aquatics has taken the initiative to share insights on how a swimmer can attain the ultimate $100,000 cash prize at the end of the Budapest meet. They have declared the point system on which the ultimate score of the swimmer will decide its fate.

World Aquatics shared a video on their official X account that gave a detailed outline of the scoring system. According to the video, the swimmers will be scored on two counts. Firstly, their positions in the races and the aqua points they earn during those. These two scores will be combined to bring out the final score. Based on that, the swimmers will receive the ultimate glory.

The swimmers will get points for their position in the finals. The 1st place will be getting 10 points, the second position will get 8 points, and the third position will secure 6 points. After this, the fourth position will be scoring 5 points, and this goes on till the 8th position attains 1 point. This was the first way to score the athletes.

Scoring based on Aqua points and final score
Scoring based on the Aqua points completely depends on how fast they swim, and how close they get to creating a world record. Any athlete that has commendable speed and gets very close to the world record will attain points between 990-999. For this, they will be awarded 9.9 points. The ones just below the top position will get points between 980-989 and will be awarded 9.8 points. This will go on till the fourth closest athlete to the world record will get 710- 719 and will attain 7.1 points.

The score obtained by combining the two scores, one attained by position and the other by aqua points, will decide the result for the respective race. The athletes can participate in multiple races, only their top 3 races will be considered for determining their position. The competition is going on YouTube and the enthusiasts have been glued to their screens since the 6th of October 2023.
