The world of swimming is one of excitement and thrill. Gary Hall Jr., who is an American former competitive swimmer, opened up about his journey and all the trials and tribulations an athlete has to face in the world of swimming. He is a three-time Olympic medalist, and former world record-holder in five events and with this. Besides the amazing sporting career, he is also a former ophthalmologist.?
In his recent video, he shared an unheard story about himself and another fellow swimmer Anthony Ervin. He is also an American competitive swimmer who has also won four Olympic medals and two World Championship golds. The Olympic medalist Gary Hall took his fans on a trip down memory lane after narrating his story. The Swimnerd shared a video on their X (formerly known as twitter) account where Halls is seen talking about the difficulties and how he and Anthony Ervin were out of the crowd and how they did their best in surviving the system. In the entire video, he explained the fact that he was not suppressed by the system. He explained the entire scenario that takes place inside the community and his way of coping with it. He referred to him and Anthony as wild horses who didn?t need anyone riding them to get them to the success they deserved. He stated, ?System breaks you, I wasn?t going to let that happen. And Neither Was he.??
With this, he also spoke about how some of the coaches try to control the swimmers and execute formulas according to them to push the swimmer to a certain goal. Hall Jr. was not a big fan of this method himself and did not allow himself to get into this trap. He called the mathematical way of the coaches a science and referred to swimming as art which he and Ervin both clearly understood. They had to fight multiple oppositions for many years and then without giving up they reached this stage. Ervin himself went through a very difficult phase of his life and the story of his comeback is still instilled in the mind of the swimming community.?

Sports history has seen multiple great recoveries from the toughest situations and Ervin?s story is one of them. This four-time Olympian who has attained some of the best accolades in his name stunned the entire swimming world after he announced his retirement amidst the prime of his career.?
Amidst the Olympic golds some of the disturbing situations worsened his condition that led to a major mental health downfall in the swimmer. One of the many questions that disturbed him was, ?I noticed you were blinking prior to the race. Was that your Tourette?s Syndrome?? This question made him extremely uncomfortable and following this, he was asked another disturbing question about his African-American descendent.?

This was one of the reasons that resulted in his untimely retirement and after this, he also went into a world of severe addiction to alcohol, drugs, speed racing, motorbiking, and sex addiction. However, he beautifully came out of it by accepting his truth, and adapting the culture of meditation in his life, he straightened things for himself and came out stronger and with a clear vision of himself.?
