Memorial Day is observed to pay tribute to the US military personnel who died serving their country. The day is listed as a federal holiday in the United States. This year, numerous athletes, including Michael Phelps, Shaun White, and Lindsey Vonn, honored the sacrifices of soldiers.

Soldiers are the first line of defense to deter breaches in security and are an integral part of a country’s security measures. However, defending a country does not come without sacrifice. Therefore, the last Monday of May is observed as Memorial Day.

Phelps, Shaun White, and Lindsey Vonn share Memorial Day posts and stories

Many celebrities shared inspiring posts and stories to mark the occasion of Memorial Day on May 30. Prominent athletes like Michael Phelps, Shaun White, and Lindsey Vonn shared similar content over social media.

Phelps shared a post on Instagram detailing how he spent the day with his family to commemorate the soldiers’ lives. Michael poses next to the fire pit with his kids in the pictures.

Phelps holds a s’more while one of his sons stands in the background in one of the photos. His Instagram post read, “What a perfect way to end Memorial Day !! A bonfire for the kids.”

In the post, Michael jokingly added, “Now the kids want a bonfire every weekend.”

Similarly, White also shared a story on Instagram to mourn the brave military personnel who lost their lives serving the country. The text on his story read, “Today, we honor the brave soldiers, sailors airmen, and women Marines and every member of our Armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Moreover, Lindsey Vonn shared a story on her Instagram page. “Thank you to everyone who has served. We honor you today and every day,” read the story.

Meanwhile, the official Instagram handle of the US Ski Team posted a picture of Mikaela Shiffrin praying for the soldiers. The post read, “Today and every day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. US #MemorialDay”
