The US Nationals are here, and athletes are fighting to the bone to grab a seat in the World Championship to be held in Fakuta, Japan. Claire Curzan has been an international representative of the US Team in the pool. However, the Olympic medalist was undergoing severe health issues just before the nationals. Despite her health conditions, she participated in the Indianapolis 100 Free only to make it to Japan.

According to her father, on July 13, the swimming champion had symptoms of fever and chills and did not enter the pool for almost a week. After finishing her final exams at Stanford University, the athlete had been sleeping twelve to fourteen hours a day. This called for immediate action.

Curzan was taken to the emergency room, where the Olympic medalist was given antibiotics and injected with IV fluid. A fan tweeted, “Clare Curzan got sick on June 13 and was hospitalized before trials, which caused her to be out of the water for six days. She nearly scratched out of the meet but decided to swim anyway. I feel like this makes her results a lot more impressive,” as she highlights the results of the swimmer at the 100 free.

After coming to Indianapolis, the swimmer decided not to participate in the 100-meter race but eventually changed her mind. And, her performance at the 100-meter free race was one of her finest till now, exceeding her past records. Claire Curzan came 3rd at 58.59 seconds, after Regan Smith at 57.7 and Katherine Berkoff at 58.01, respectively. While she is yet to secure her spot for the world championships, Curzan did break her record in the race. Curzan’s swimming time at Indianapolis was less than when she won bronze at the previous championship. But now she has only one chance of redeeming herself.
