In the previous UVA vs Texas swimming meet, Kate Douglass hit the headlines. The swimmer representing the University of Virginia became one of the fastest women in 100m-yard IM. The 21-year-old swimmer won the heats event in 51.97 seconds and became the first swimmer to lower the sub under 52 seconds.
In light of this win in the next swimming meet held from October 27th till October 28th in UVA Aquatic Fitness Center, another swimmer representing the University of Virginia has etched her name in history. On October 28th, Kyle Sockwell posted an intriguing video on X. In the short clip captioned “Gretchen Walsh just did all of this in a training suit under 24 hours,” the University of Virginia Junior was spotted jumping in the pool in a training suit. However, despite not using the proper racing suit for the iconic swimming meet, the 20-year-old Walsh created history in Virginia waters.

On the first day of the meet, Walsh began her meet with a 50-meter backstroke in the 200m medley race. The athlete finished the race in 22.54, lowering her American record of the second fastest time. Following this in the 50-meter freestyle, Walsh finished the race in 20.95 and also added another personal best in the 100-meter butterfly. The 20-year-old took a few seconds from her previous personal best record of 49.34 to win the event in 49.11 while surpassing Emma Sticklen.
Lastly, the athlete finished the day strong after finishing the 200-meter freestyle relay race with one of the fastest splits of this year’s NCAA championship, 20.78. On the second day of the dual, Gretchen Walsh continued to maintain her winning streak. The swimmer showcased her skills in the 100-meter events of the meet.

On the second day of the swimming meet, Gretchen Walsh managed to maintain the lead at the University of Virginia. The swimmer secured a win in the 100-meter freestyle by clocking in the fastest time in the NCAA this season, 46.42. Furthermore, in the 100-meter backstroke of the 400-meter medley relay, Walsh lowered her season-best performance by finishing the 100-meter in 49.17. At last, the athlete concluded her meet with a 46.46 split in the 400m freestyle relay, helping the team finish the race in a nation-leading time of 3:12.74.
