The American swimming fans were horrified by the dismal performances of Team USA in the first couple of heats on the opening day of the Swimming World Cup 2023 in Berlin. However, one breakout star donning the star-spangled banner on his chest made sure to turn that frown upside down with his performance. Michael Andrew repaid the trust of the fans in spade at the 100-meter butterfly heat on Friday morning. However, his brilliant performance at the finals later in the day took things to a new level of precision. 

Michael Andrew entered the finals as the favorite and was determined to wave the USA’s flag sky-high. He was joined by another American superstar, Trenton Julian who had an incredible run of his own. But the center of attention was Andrew’s neck and back battle with an Australian rival who was confident of his victory having two other team members in the pool with him. 

Michael Andrew surges ahead against three Australian rivals

Michael Andrew entered the pool in lane 5 next to Australian legend Ben Armbruster in lane 4. The American Olympic gold medalist was unfazed by the staunch competition from the land down under. He had the gold in his eyes and nothing could stop him from getting it. His stupendous performance in Berlin has become the talk of the town and people are going back to the video footage of the match to pay homage to this amazing swimmer.

World Aquatics also celebrated his incredible victory with an X post writing, “Michael Andrew taking home 🥇 in the 100m Butterfly final at the #SWC23 in Berlin by just 0.03 over 🇦🇺 Ben Armbruster”. Michael Andrew’s electrifying finish at 51.66 seconds was nothing short of remarkable. 

His Australian rival touched the wall at 51.69 seconds showcasing how close the race was. In fact, Armbruster had a better final split of 27.61 over Andrew’s 27.75. But the American legend had cemented his victory with a decisive lead in the first split. However, he was still not done and a new day brought a new challenge before him in the Swimming World Cup 2023.

Andrew’s triumph continues in Swimming World Cup 2023 

Michael Andrew resurrected his hot run in the 50-meter backstroke on Day 2 of the Swimming World Cup. This time it was Isaac Cooper’s turn to continue Australia’s challenge against the American world champion. His rival from the 100-meter butterfly Ben Armbruster was also entering the pool hungry for revenge. However, nothing seemed to matter for Michael Andrew who was cool and confident in his prowess.

He led the charge and finished the race in 24.47 seconds. His closest second was Isaac Cooper, who touched the wall at 24.59 seconds. Ben Armbruster could not make the podium, finishing in fourth place. Michael Andrew has truly inspired confidence for the upcoming year in swimming, which includes the 2024 Paris Olympics. With the presence of this 24-year-old iconic swimmer, Team USA is in the best shape for the gold.
