On day 1 of Athens, the women’s 50m Freestyle saw a sudden turn of events that impacted multiple things at once. Swedish swimmer Louise Hansson’s performance and the viewership both faced a downfall due to one wrong step. Jumping from lane 2 in the Freestyle she used the Butterfly stroke to swim the race which led to her disqualification at first.
The announcement of her disqualification made the viewership of the World Cup go from 2000+ to 1200+ immediately. However, based upon the rule that since it is freestyle, the swimmer has the liberty to opt for any stroke they want which canceled her disqualification. But her marking in this race will be based upon the 50 freestyle itself which made her shift at the 5th position with a time of 26.40. This hilarious mistake from Hansson’s end would be one of the most memorable moments of all her performances.
