The Speedo Junior National Championships 2023 is back again. The event began on 31 July and will be continuing till 4th August and is being conducted at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, US. Some of the best junior swimmers in the age category of 18 and under have participated in it and the action is ongoing in the city of California, Irvine. Not only have these pro swimmers performed magically but also broke some great records.

Each year the participants in this Junior Championships prove that they are capable of world-class performance with their unique talent. Recently, a young swimming star from Pleasanton, CA, showed some phenomenal skills in the competition of junior championships. He stunned the world with a record-breaking performance in the 1500-meter freestyle swimming. The world is looking forward to witnessing more incredible performances from this stellar swimmer.?

A 14-year-old swimming prodigy breaks NAG record?

A 14-year-old boy, Luka Mijatovic took part in this year’s championship. He underwent his training from the Pleasanton Seahawks, a national swimming center in the US. Mijatovic competed in five different events, the 200, 400, 800, and 1500-meter freestyle events, and did a great job in each. But in the 1500-meter freestyle, Luka did something charismatic and broke the record with a 15:27:30 set.

The record for the 14-15 age group was made in 1976 by Jesse Vassallo with a set of 15: 31:03. This great achievement of Luka was celebrated nationwide and the social media handle of USA Swimming also posted this on Twitter to delight the world with this amazing news.

Now the podium for 1500m freestyle in Speedo Jr Championships is decorated as Isaac Fleig from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, in first place with the time set of 15:19:90. It is then followed by Luke Whitlock from Noblesville, Indiana, who set the record for the second position with a time set of 15:22:22. After that, comes new record breaker Luka Mijatovic with time set of 15:27:03. He is followed by William Mulgrew 15:29:82, the comes Nathan Szobota 15:29:87. However, beyond this championship there are some greater records in the world stands for 1500 fastest heat, in which Luka is ranked on 3rd position.?

The 1500-meter junior freestyle fastest heat ever

After multiple decades which is more than 17000 days, Luka broke the 1976 record of Jesse Vssallo and climbed to the 3rd position on World Jr 1500 fastest heat rank. The first position is held by a Croatian swimmer, Franco Grgic in the 2019 Jr World Championships with a time set of 14:46:09. It is subsequently followed by the second position which is secured by New Jersey swimmer Johannes Calloni, who set the record in US Jr Championships 2016 with a time set of 15:16:62. The third position was earlier held by Jesse Vassallo whom Luka removed in 2023 Speedo Championships and secured the rank. In the World Championships, Luka?s record is followed by Bobby Hacket from the US with a set of 15:03:91, and the fifth position is also secured by an American swimmer Larsen Jensen with a record of 14:45:29.?

The new era of swimming is in the junior champions’ hands now?and is dominating the arena. The 14-year-old swimming prodigy from California holds multiple records now, he set the record for 200, 400, 800, and now 1500 national age group swimming. In the 200-meter freestyle, Luka broke the record of Thomas Heilman in the 13-14 age group and re-broke 400 and 800-meter freestyles in US National Championships. At such young age, Luka has achieved so many goals that one could ever dream of, and he also conquered the sports enthusiasts’ hearts with his unbelievable performance in this championship.
