The 20th edition of the World Aquatic Championships was held in Fukuoka, Japan. The event began on 14th July and closed on 30th July. After the events were concluded, an international ranking was made which manifested countries’ rank according to the number of medals won. Australia had topped the tally with 5 bronze, 7 silver, and 13 golds which is the most number of golds achieved by a team. They’re then followed by the US on rank 2 of the tally, who secured 7 gold, 20 silver, and 11 bronze.?
This is the 2nd time after 1956 when Australia finished ahead of the United States in the international medal tally of the World Championships. With multiple record-breaking performances in this championship, dolphins and athletes waved their goodbyes for this year. This 2023 Aquatics Championship was the first time since 2001 that Australia has beaten the United States in swimming.?Despite their most golds in the tournament, the overall best team award was handed to the US which was criticized by Australia?s head coach Rohan Taylor. Braiden Keith, the co-owner, co-founder, and editor-in-chief of Swim Swam also recently shared the medal tally on his Twitter explaining that the tally was sorted according to the total medals won.?

Rohan Taylor expressed his disappointment saying that he was brought up to think that gold medals are the most important in the championships. He said, that if anyone looks through their perspective then, Australia sits on the top of the tally. However, Taylor admitted that he is not taking anything away from the US because they won the award according to the championship criteria.
Chalmers expressed thoughts on this ranking and said, ?It?s always satisfying. I think there?s nothing better than standing on top of the podium and at times not having to listen to the American anthem and listening to our own anthem.? According to Fox Sports, this sentimental side of the Australians was ignored by the American media and TV Broadcasters including Kyle Sockwell, who made some statements about the tally ranking.?

The American swimming commentator, Kyle Sockwell enjoyed America’s top rank and made some statements regarding the tally. He said the ?world went ?haywire?,? when America received the best team award. A fan supporting Australia shared his thrill on Twitter after seeing his favorite team shining in the World championships. He also indicated the complexity of scoring on the tally and called it unclear. The American commentator replied in a witty manner indicating the clearance on the score at the International level.

The FINA World Aquatics released its tally of International Ranking manifesting China at the top with 20 gold medals. This championship was some sort of a magical tournament to watch athletes breaking old records and setting new ones. The best male swimmer award was handed to French swimming star Leon Marchand from France was awarded the best swimmer who broke Michael Phelps?s record in 400m and won 3 golds. And in the female category, the award was given to the Australian swimming sensation, Kaylee McKeown.
