The first stage of the 2023 FINA Swimming World Cup is over. Held in the German capital, in this three-day event, many U.S. athletes were left disappointed. Five-time world champion Nic Fink could not secure a position in the 100-meter breaststroke, while in the 400-meter freestyle, Kieran Smith had to settle for the bronze.

In the Berlin Swimming World Cup 2023, Michael Andrew showcased many extraordinary performances. According to the live coverage provided by World Aquatics on YouTube, the swimmer secured two silver and gold medals at the event. On the first day in 50m freestyle, the athlete won silver by clocking in 22.03. Following this win in the second event of the first day, Andrew managed to secure a gold in the 100-meter butterfly after finishing the race in 51.66.
On the event’s second day, 24-year-old Michael Andrew again stood atop the podium after clinching a gold in his expertise event, the 50-meter backstroke. The athlete secured the win in 24.7, gaining 909 points. At the same time, his in-pool rival Isaac Cooper and Polish swimmer Ksawery Masuik had to settle for silver and bronze after finishing the race in 24.59 and 25.09, respectively.
Lastly, on 8th October, the athlete added one more silver to his ever-growing hall of fame. Andrew yet again tied with the Trinidad competitor to win the medal. These staunch wins come for the athlete amid facing many setbacks at the 2021 Big Games.

Hardship faced by Michael Andrew
After securing his ticket for the Tokyo Olympics, Michael Andrew faced disappointments. The athlete who is the youngest swimmer to turn pro could not secure a win in the 100m breaststroke or 50 freestyle event. After finishing fifth in the 100m event, the athlete could only secure one gold at the games. In the 100m relay, the athlete joined the forces of team U.S.A. to win the event in 3:26.78. In an interview, while being candid about the aftermath of the Tokyo Olympics, the 24-year-old added, ” I went through 12 weeks of no swimming, just surfed. I didn’t do any media after the games and just went into my own hole.”

However, in season 2023, Michael Andrew seems to come back stronger. Now, the fans hope to witness the athlete maintain his zeal and win his first individual medal in the 2024 Olympics, held in Paris.
