The second leg of the Swimming World Cup 2023 has reached its final stage. Till now, the U.S.A. team has secured three gold medals in this three-day event that will run from October 13 to October 15. Katie Grimes secured the second gold in the 400-meter medley in Greek waters, while Michael Andrews maintained his 50-meter streak win after winning the 50-meter freestyle event.

Following this news on the third day of the event, the team was faced with disappointment. In the 1500-meter freestyle event, Lani Pallister, representing Australia, surpassed Katie Ldeceky’s 17-year-old teammate in the Greek waters. The swimmer also set a new record after winning the event.

Lani Pallister creates history at the Swimming World Cup 2023

According to the live coverage provided by FINA on YouTube, Lani Pallister won the 1500-meter freestyle event. The 21-year-old athlete stood atop the podium, etching a new record in the 1500-meter freestyle after finishing the race in 15:55.73, while Katie Ledecyky’s teammate Katie Grimes had to settle for second place in 16:08.81. Caitlin Deans, representing New Zealand, secured third after finishing the race in 16:21.06.

 

Katie Grimes had to settle for silver after securing double gold in the 400-meter medley. In the first leg of the Swimming World Cup, the athlete won gold in 4:37.20. Following this event in the Olympic pool in Athens, Greece, 17-year-old Grimes won the medley event in 4:38.74. At the same time, Waka Kobori and Ageha Tanigawa had to settle for the second and third positions after finishing the race in 4:39.35 and 4:40.23, respectively.

 

Interestingly, on the other hand, this win came for Pallister after the athlete was able to reach the 400-meter event amidst the efforts of an American swimming prodigy. After the race, the australian swimmer was also spotted thanking Beata Nelson for her last-minute save.

On the second day, Lani Pallister secured a win in the 400-meter freestyle event. The athlete clinched the silver in 4:02.47, while Erika Fairweather, representing New Zealand, won the event in 4:01.90. Interestingly, this staunch win comes for the athlete after Beate Nelson helped her reach the event on time. In an interview, the 21-year-old Pallister told the media, “Shoutout to Beata Nelson for breaking out in my room and getting my suit.”

All in all, from graciously thanking her rival teammates to etching her name in the history of swimming, Lani Pallister has genuinely raised the bar for athletes in swimming. Now, the Pallister enthusiasts are ready for the athlete to secure more wins in the Swimming World Cup 2023.
