On Saturday night, the world swimming championship witnessed history being made. 26-year-old Katie Ledecky stormed through the waters of Japan to win her sixth 800-meter freestyle title. The athlete?s win was a truly phenomenal achievement as Ledecky broke the swimming legend Michael Phelps’s historic record.

Alongside her record-breaking win, Ledecky continues to maintain her streak remains in her expertise event. The win came only three days after the 26-year-old swimmer won two individual events multiple times by securing gold in the 1500-meter race in the championship.

On July 29, Katie Ledecky created history by breaking Michael Phelps’s individual record. As the athlete grabbed her 16th individual title surpassing Phelps’s record for the most gold medals. The 26-year-old is now the only swimmer to hold the most gold medals in an individual event at the World Aquatics Championship. Katie also created history by attaining her sixth consecutive title in her expertise event, the 800m freestyle. The athlete is now one of America’s most decorated swimmers.

While talking about her achievement in an interview with USA Today Ledecky stated, ?I tend to focus on one race, one practice, and one season at a time and never really ?aim? for medal-count records,? Further the swimmer added ?It is just the product of hard work over many years.? Last night, Ledecky touched the wall at 8:08.87, surpassing top-tier starts including Mollie?O Callaghan by 4.44 seconds. The record time of the athlete was her seventh fastest time of all time, giving her the 29 fastest time records at the Worlds.

Nonetheless, Katie Ledecky’s win was no surprise, as the athlete has always dominated this freestyle event. The rock of the US squad has never been defeated in the 800-meter freestyle event for more than a decade. Ledecky now possesses six straight individual wins in the 800m and five wins in the 1500m freestyle after her previous win in the 1500m freestyle event.

Katie Ledecky creates history in two events consecutively

On July 25, Katie Ledecky won her fifth 1500m title, tying her record with Michael Phelps. Ledecky created history at the event and became the first swimmer to win more than one individual record in multiple events. The athlete finished the race in 15:26:27, a mile away from the other swimmers, with her third-fastest time of the season. And now yesterday, the athlete took her achievement to another level as the swimmer broke the tie by grabbing the 16th gold medal at the Worlds and adding one more win to his multiple individual records.
