Local Irish community left in dismay after recent tragic events. On August 24, a 14-year-old boy lost his life in Co Cork, Ireland. Jack O’Sullivan, who was swimming at a local passage in West Cork with his friends struggled in the water and lost his life in a tragic incident. This loss has left the community in shock as his neighbors and teachers pour their condolences for the teenage boy.
Following this heartbreaking incident, this week the Co Cork community faced another tragedy. On Tuesday, a seven-year-old girl, while enjoying a day at the beach with her twin brother, was engulfed in the currents and lost her life. Seven-year-old Emili would have celebrated her birthday yesterday with her twin brother Jeremy, but fate had other plans for the little girl.

On Tuesday, a tragedy struck in the Irish waters, leaving the swimming community aghast. A young girl named Emily Roman, a second-grade student, lost her life in a drowning incident at Fountainstown Beach, near Carrigaline. Around 4:30, the seven-year-old was at the beach with her twin brother, Jeremy, when she was swept into the sea.

According to the Independent. ie, a spokesperson for Crosshaven RNLI stated, “The body of the child was spotted in the surf line by a member of the public, and one of our lifeboats recovered her to the beach.”
According to the spokesperson, the entire crew worked for hours to find Emili, but sadly, the young girl was recovered later after being washed away by the strong currents. After the recovery, the seven-year-old was immediately taken by the Irish Coast Guard jeep to a local station for her family. Later, the body was transported to CUH for postmortem.
The funeral of Emili is set to take place on September 9 at 11:30 a.m. The funeral will take place at the Church of Our Lady and St. John’s, followed later by the burial at the St.John?s cemetery at Ballinrea. After the tragic loss, Emili Roman’s school released a statement on Wednesday. According to the statement, the school is heartbroken for the seven-year-old girl?s family. Further, while highlighting the devastating loss of the young soul days before her birthday, the statement added, “Emili would have been eight years old tomorrow (7th September).” Both Emili and her twin Jeremy joined the Templebreedy National School as infants in 2020. According to the principal, Doris Bryan Emili was a cheerful person, and they are trying their best to make the school a safe place for the knit-bound community to support each other through these difficult times.
Further, a family friend has also set up a GoFundMe page to help the victim’s family. The page was set up to achieve a target of $6,428 to cover Emilii?s funeral costs, but the page has already raised $21,431 for the seven-year-old. The local Fine Gael Councillor, Jack White who joined more than 200 people trying to find Emili also sent his condolences for the family while highlighting the two previous deaths that occurred in the community.
