In the Swimming World Cup 2023, many athletes secured strong wins. In the 50-meter events, Michael Andrew secured many accolades while representing the United States. At the same time, Chinese superstar Qin Haiyang managed to win two 100-meter breaststroke events and become the world’s second-fastest swimmer after defeating Adam Peaty in both legs of the World Cup.

In light of these events, at the last leg of the Swimming World Cup 2023, which will be held from 20th October until 22nd October, a Swiss athlete managed to secure a win. Noe Ponti, who struggled at the beginning of the 100m race, regained his form and surpassed Olympic winners to stand atop the Budapest Podium.

Noe Ponti wins the 100-meter event at the Swimming World Cup 2023

According to the live coverage provided by FINA on their YouTube channel, Noe Ponti secured a win in the 100-meter butterfly event. The 22-year-old swimmer, who had a slow start and turned 7th in the first lap, managed to clinch the gold in 51.38. At the same time, South African swimmer Matthew States, who had won the event in the previous leg of Swimming World Cup 2023, and Australian swimmer Jesse Jack Coleman settled for the second and third positions by finishing the race in 51.66 and 51.88, respectively.

Amid this staunch success, the athlete also surpassed four-time Olympian Chad Le Clos, who had to settle for the fifth position in 52.21. This win comes for the 22-year-old after qualifying for the event in 51.34 and securing the rank of 1st. Interestingly, this loss comes for Chad Le Clos after the athlete was defeated by another South African swimmer, Matthew States, in Athens, Greece.

Chad Le Clos disappointed in the 100m event

The 2023 swimming season has been disappointing for Clos so far. The athlete who decided to pull out of the 2023 World Aquatics championship has repeatedly faced loss at the  World Cup. In the 1000m Butterfly event of the Second leg of the Swimming World Cup 2023, the Olympian had to settle for the fifth position by finishing the race in 52.21. At the same time, Mathew States clinched gold for South Africa by finishing the race in 51.82

After this dismay, both states and Clos faced disappointments in the Budapest waters. Now, the fans are girded up for Noe Ponti to maintain his zeal and compete against staunch athletes in the Big Games next year.
