As reported by CBS17, tragedy struck at Jordan Lake on a Sunday afternoon as a person boating and swimming met a watery end. The individual was in the lake, close to their boat at Poe’s Ridge Boat Ramp. This Ramp is situated in the southernmost region of Moncure. Amidst the afternoon, fellow lakegoers? lost sight of the swimmer, and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the incident involved no foul play. Following an extensive effort involving Chatham County deputies and collaborating agencies like the N.C. Wildlife Commission and? the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The search party also included the Moncure Fire Department and Lee County Emergency Services. The victim’s body was recovered later in the day, around 6:05 p.m. The bitter twist emerges as it’s revealed that the man who drowned was the father of an ABC11 employee. This unfortunate occurrence adds to the tally of drownings at Jordan Lake this year, casting a shadow over the northeastern part of Chatham County.

Roberto’s jet skiing ends in a heartbreaking disappearance near the water

On March 7, 2023, while jet skiing, Roberto Enrique Deleto vanished. He and a friend faced mechanical troubles while on personal watercraft, prompting his friend to head back to shore for a rope. Upon returning, Robert was nowhere to be found. A life vest, discovered beside the watercraft, was confirmed by his family. Subsequently, search teams located the body of the missing 15-year-old in Jordan Lake.
