At the 2023 Swimming World Cup, the U.S.A. team faced many setbacks. In the 100-meter breaststroke events, five-time world champion Nic Fink was repeatedly surpassed by soaring Chinese star Qin Haiyang in the pool. At the same time, both Kieran Smith and Claire Weinstein have also failed to clinch gold in the 400-meter freestyle events.

The 24-year-old athlete, who looks forward to becoming the next Michael Phelps by gaining expertise in different events, has clinched many victories at the World Cup. Young prodigy, Michael Andrew has secured his name in the list of top 6 World Cup rankings of the ongoing event.

Water Wizard secures his name in the top 6 ranking list

On October 16, World Aquatics posted the list of top-ranked swimmers with the caption ” Breakdown of the current top 6 raked at Swimming World Cup 2023” on X. In the overall World Cup ranking for men, Chinese swimming prodigy Qin Haiyang holds the first rank with a total of 116.7. The athlete is followed by Thomas Ceccon (Italy) and Matthew States (South Africa), who have secured 112.8 and 110.5 points, respectively.

Amid this list of athletes, only one USA athlete holds a rank. The water wizard of the United States, Michael Andrew, who has clinched 54.5 and 53.9 points in both legs, respectively, has secured the position of 4th with a total of 108.4 points. This position comes after Michael Andrew secured four golds for the U.S.A.

In the first leg held in Greece, the 24-year-old Tokyo Olympic champion won the 50-meter backstroke event in 24.47, followed by another accolade in the 100-meter butterfly (51.66). In the event’s second leg, Andrew again struck his magic by clinching two golds in Greek waters. The swimmer secured these wins in 50-meter events.

In the second leg of the Swimming World Cup 2023, held from 13 October to 15 October, both Katie Grimes and Michael Andrew continued to stand atop the podium. Grimes secured her second win in the 400-meter medley after surpassing Waka Kobori. At the same time, Michael Andrew clinched gold in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, respectively.

In the freestyle race, the athlete touched the wall in 21.96, followed by his in-pool rival Isaac Cooper (22.07). Furthermore, in the backstroke event, the water wizard secured another gold by touching the wall in 24.79.
