Kai Taylor’s results at the World Championship Trials were impressive and surprising. There?s no way I would have acted like a crazy lady in the stands [if I knew the cameras were on me],” said Hayley Lewis, reflecting on her emotional reaction to her son’s swimming victory. Kai Taylor blazed his way through the race, seizing the lead from the very beginning and refusing to relinquish it.

Kai Taylor led the race from start to finish and touched the wall in 1:46.25, beating his rivals by a narrow margin. He qualified for the world championships in Japan, where he will have a chance to emulate his mother’s success. The 19-year-old achieved this remarkable feat after initially missing out on the final by finishing ninth fastest in the heats. He was given a second chance when Kyle Chalmers withdrew from the final to focus on other events. Taylor said he was very grateful to Chalmers for giving him the opportunity and that he received a message of encouragement from him before the race.

Hayley Lewis’ reactions to her son Kai Taylor’s win were very emotional and enthusiastic. She was captured by the cameras in the stands cheering, jumping, hugging her husband, and crying. She said she was proud of her son and that she did not expect him to win from lane eight.?

 

“Even though she?s a legend of the sport, she just wants me to be happy. She told me to do my thing, be calm, but she did, however, mention that great things happen from lane eight,” said Kai, reports 7News.com. Motivated by the enduring legacy of his mother, Kai aspires to follow in her footsteps. He emphasized his happiness and the honor he felt in representing Australia at the world championships.
