They talked to the New York Post in an eye-opening interview and raised their concerns about equality in competitions. Many mothers came up with different viewpoints on the sacrifices their daughters made for being a champion. Hence, this is an interesting take on the current situation.

Concerns against Lia Thomas’ participation

Finishing the race with a time of 4:33.24, she made history during the NCAA Division swim meet. Thus, many mothers have voiced out how the dreams of their daughters are fading away. According to the New York Post, the current situation disappoints most of them. One of them expressed the ‘humiliating’ experience. She said:

“My daughter swam against Lia at Yale this year and it was just a miserable experience all around. We are literally bending over for male privilege. It’s humiliating.”

Taking part in the men’s division earlier, Thomas’ participation has led to the fears of more swimmers heading to the competition with physical advantages. They focused on equality, as the mothers did not want their daughter’s efforts to go in vain. Whereas, a video emerged on YouTube of ‘A report from Mother of Swimmer’, who spoke about the troubles she faced. She concentrated on the efforts of her daughter, who started swimming at the age of 5, the early morning training sessions, and other related costs of training. Having taken part in the same event as Lia, the mothers spoke about their battles going for a toss.

Voice of the voiceless

As there is minimum clarity on the situation, they wanted a fair opportunity for their daughters. And, they talked about the current problems they faced, as well as, no one cared about their opinion about the matter.

“We are not anti-trans, we are certainly not anti-Lia. We are for our girls having the right to compete under fair conditions. It is not fair for them to go up against a biological male, it just isn’t. We’ve been shamed into silence. Our daughters are told by their coaches and athletic directors to shut up and keep quiet. But we’re done being nice. Being nice has gotten us anywhere. We feel so helpless. Nobody hears us,” mentioned one mother.
