Swimmer Michael Phelps has always been there for kids’ mental and physical health. The 28-time Olympic gold medalist sure knows the value of health. Michael, with his astonishing achievements, has inspired kids into taking swimming. However to further promote health, and well-being among children, in 2014, he joined hands with Michelle Obama for Kids’ health.

They started a health campaign to battle obesity among kids. And hence, the former first lady, Michelle Obama organized a press conference in Subway near the White House. 

Michael Phelps and Michelle come together for a healthy menu for kids 

The campaign, worth $41 million was launched on 1st February; with the slogan “Playtime Powered By Veggies” as the logo for a healthier America. Moreover, the campaign garnered support from Disney; Disney’s Muppets were used in a video to promote healthy choices.

During the conference, former first lady of the US said, “With these new initiatives, Subway is once again stepping up to provide even more healthy choices for our families,”

I am thrilled that Subway is one of the first companies that answered this call,” she added. Obama also talked about her concern as a mother, “I’m excited about these initiatives not just as a First Lady, but also as a mom. Subway’s kids’ menu makes life easier for parents because they know that no matter what their kid’s order, it’s going to be a healthy choice.

With this campaign, Subway has to serve apple slices and low-fat milk in the meal. It also switched soda with mineral water so kids’ carbonate intake could decrease. Additionally, Subway cut short the calories of the meals; every meal had less than 600 calories.

Not just Michael Phelps but Justin Tuck, Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle, and Gymnast Nastia Liukin were also present with Michelle Obama.
