Nicole Phelps suffers from Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy, which is a liver condition that causes extreme itching and can even lead to a stillbirth. She experienced the symptoms first during her pregnancy with Boomer. In the absence of her husband, Michael Phelps, who was off training for the Olympics, Mrs. Phelps hired a doula. Now, this persistent illness has returned to plague her and threaten the well-being of her unborn child.

She posted a picture of herself from the hospital, where the doctors had attached multiple machines to her belly. The picture was captioned, “For those who have followed my journey with #cholestasis in the past I wanted to share an update… I’m doing an NST this am because my liver enzymes are somewhat increasing… and I share this incase any pregnant mama is having itchy hand/feet!!! Please don’t ignore the itch, go get checked”. Nicole Phelps had a confident smile on her face as she knew that Michael Phelps was within proximity to support her this time.
