Swimming accidents are becoming more common in the United States, especially in the summer months when people flock to the pools to cool off. Last week, a New Jersey man drowned in the Millstone River while trying to save his three kids. Now another drowning incident has shocked the swimming community once again.
This recent incident involved a toddler who fell into a pool in the absence of adult supervision. When the child was pulled out of the water, he was in really bad shape. The reports from the incident stated that the child was unresponsive and not breathing.

On Sunday, August 6, the local Fire and Medical Department of Surprise rushed to a home after a distress call. The 911 call mentioned a two-year-old in respiratory arrest. The paramedics arrived on the scene and found the child unconscious and unable to breathe. Soon after, the police also reached the home at 179th Avenue and Greenway Road to provide assistance. The paramedics tried to resuscitate the kid with CPR on the premises, but to no avail.
According to reports on 12News, “The department said the child was in the water for five minutes”. The authorities should be commended for their prompt action in responding to the emergency situation. They arrived on the scene very quickly and took steps to save the child’s life. The emergency response team requested an air ambulance to bring the kid to the hospital for proper care.
The paramedics flew the kid to Phoenix Hospital with assisted breathing, where the doctors immediately admitted him to the intensive care unit. Larry Subervi, the spokesperson for the department, stated that the team is fully committed to providing updates as soon as they have more information. There have been similar accidents in the neighborhood in the past, which calls for more awareness about pool safety.

Most homes in Surprise have a swimming pool to add value. It is also a bonus feature for the residents to enjoy during the hot summer months. However, these pools pose a risk as children often venture into them in the absence of an adult. This is exactly what happened on July 12, 2022, when a three-year-old girl drowned in her home in Surprise, Arizona. First responders arrived at the girl’s home on 158th Avenue but were unable to save her. The Arizona Department of Health Services states that children between the ages of 0 and 4 are more prone to drowning. Arizona also leads the U.S. in drowning deaths among children.
In light of such events, the swimming community has always asked pool owners to be careful about their family’s safety around the pool. Parents with pools can prevent accidents if they keep the pools covered when not in use. Children must only be allowed into the pool when there is an adult present.

However, amidst all this, one cannot help but feel a sense of sadness for the child and his family. No parent wants to see their child suffer and fight for their life. The community is praying for the child’s recovery and offering support to the family during this difficult time.
