Lia Thomas has been at the peak of controversy after her NCAA win. She is the first transgender woman to win at the NCAA Swimming Finals. However, not everyone is happy to see Lia take home the medal.

Many are of the opinion that Lia Thomas “should not be” allowed to compete in the Women’s events. This is because prior to her transition, she competed for the men’s events. Thomas’s win has been majorly marked as “unfair” by many.

Sharron has opened up about the Lia Thomas controversy. She believes that equal opportunities should be given to both men and women in sports.

“You can be damn sure if men’s sport were affected, this wouldn’t be happening. So it’s very important that women have equal opportunities of success in sports,” said Davies.

Right now, women are being discriminated against because of their biological sex, which should not happen at any cost, according to Sharron.

Davies also talked about Lia, who previously competed in Men’s swimming.

“She went from being number 500 to being Number 1. And it’s just not fair.” Notably, Lia Thomas was ranked 462nd when she competed as a male. Currently, her rank is No.1

Davies revealed that women should not feel like their sport has been “played on the back” with “political correctness”.

Sharron Davies believes in looking for the solution

However there is a solution to every issue, so there will be a solution to this one as well. Davies believes in being part of that solution.

“It’s not Lia’s fault. But we have to find better solutions because in the past the debate has been closed. Of course, Lia should be able to compete everybody should be able to compete,” said the 59-year-old.

Davies is also of the opinion that trans-men should also be addressed. Where are they going to compete? It should not be a one-sided conversation.
