Former US President George Bush Once Used Interesting Ways To Set His Daughter Up With Michael Phelps

Back in 2008, Michael Phelps was the most eligible bachelor in town. He was the Swimming champion of the nation and all eyes were set on the 6’3 tall athlete. He was already an 8-time Olympic medalist then, at the peak of his career. This meant that he had the potential to win many more medals.

Barbara Bush, daughter of George Bush, was then 26 years old and had a huge crush on Phelps. The former President had himself revealed this news to the media.

But for all those who don’t know, President George Bush actually tried to play cupid for his daughter and Michael Phelps. The President had himself revealed that he wouldn’t mind having Phelps as his son-in-law.

Throwback to when George Bush played cupid for Michael Phelps

Bush revealed that his daughter Barbara quite liked Michael Phelps back in 2008. She found him charming. In addition, Phelps is extremely talented and was reigning the swimming world back then. He became a household name in the country; even in the White House!

“Barbara, 26, often talked about Phelps, 23, with her friends even before the Beijing Olympic Games,” the Globe Magazine was quoted as saying.

In August 2008, both President George Bush and his daughter were present at the National Aquatics Centre to watch Michael perform. This was an attempt from the President’s side to introduce the athlete to his daughter.

The president and Barbara Bush both cheered on Phelps as he swam through, winning the medal. Barbara proudly waved the American national flag in the moment of victory.

Later, while congratulating Phelps, the President “incidentally” introduced his daughter to him as well. In addition, he also invited Michael Phelps to the White House.

Phelps gets married to long-time girlfriend

Notably, Michael Phelps got married to long-time girlfriend Nicole Johnson in 2016. The couple had not one, but two weddings in two exotic locations. They first married in Tempe, Arizona. This was a very small ceremony, reportedly only attended by 5 people.
