Surfing and swimming are among the most popular water sports at the paradise of the Mexican Pacific coast, which features nine bays and 36 impressive beaches. However, deep into the blues, there linger dangers that can make these activities into horrific ones. Many unfortunate enthusiasts, while enjoying their time, face fierce predators like sharks and crocodiles. While some may be fortunate enough with a narrow escape from death, others might not be the same. 

Along the same lines, A Belgian tourist came to enjoy the picturesque resorts of Mexico’s Pacific Coast. However, the trip turned into a nightmare as the tourist had to lose his life to a deadly attack by some predator. One woman was also sustained serious injuries in the incident that took place at the Pacific Coast resort of Zihuatanejo.

Predator behind the attack is yet to be identified

On 15th December, CBS News reported a horrifying incident where two people suffered fatal injuries from some waterborne predator. The man from Belgium was reported dead on the spot. The woman who was bitten on her legs was rushed to the hospital by the first responders after receiving a 911 call. Although the animal behind this attack is still unidentified, doctors are analyzing wounds to find out. Both sharks and crocodiles are known to inhabit the area. So either of the two is suspected to be behind the attack.  

After this incident took place, the beach was closed to the general people for safety concerns. In addition to this, they added in a statement, “The Government of Guerrero regrets this incident and expresses its most sincere condolences to the family of the victim who lost his life.” But this is not the first time people have been attacked by fauna

Increasing Number of Shark Attacks

The recent incident is the second shark attack that happened on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, whereas the third fatal shark attack globally. Before the recent attack, officials opted for every possible safety protocol, including purple flags for warning tourists and water sports athletes about dangers inside the water.  

In an exclusive interview with CBS News, Jeff Corwin, an American biologist, said, “The truth is when you’re in the water, if you’re in a healthy marine ecosystem… you’re often never more than 100 yards from a shark…We often interact with these species and don’t even know about it.

Apart from Thursday, another shark attack happened in early December, where a woman from Mexico suffered severe shark bites on her legs. Directly after the incident, she was reported dead. Till now, there are no estimations of why these animals target humans. As per expert analyses, often animals catch humans, mistakenly while looking for other prey.
