The 2023 US Open Swimming is raging in full force and the swimmers are all girded up. The eagerness to attain success is quite visible in every performance of the swimmers. One such ideal example of this is Matt King. This SEC and ACC champion proved his prowess after delivering a commendable performance in the men’s 100m Freestyle at Greensboro.
The spectators couldn’t control their excitement as he cruised to the finish line. He left behind some of the ideal swimmers to hold the title of the event. Even after missing the meet record, it was one of the incredible wins to witness in the US Open meet.

Matt King flaunted his incredible prowess in the 100m Freestyle and stunned the audience with his performance. He jumped and swam to the finish line like a bullet in water and grabbed the title for the men’s 100m Freestyle.
The SwimSwam Live took to their X account to announce the scores of this event. The caption to this post carried, “Matt King wins the men’s 100 free at the #ToyotaUSOpen”. Waving America’s flag high, King was on the top with a score of 48.30. Following him was Ryan Held standing in the second position with a timeframe of 48.36 and then standing in the third place was Chris Guliano, with a score of 48.51.
Jumping from the lane, Ryan Held had a very strong start, but in no time, Matt King took the lead at the halfway mark and then proudly clinched the gold.

This win was the third-fastest performance of King’s career. The first two were 47.99 and 47.93 at the 100 Freestyle which he made at Nationals this year.Interestingly, he left behind the American swimmer Ryan Held who holds the Open meet record of this men’s 100m Freestyle. However, King couldn’t reach the meet record.

Ryan Held is an American swimmer who is a 2016 Olympic champion in the 400 free relay and 6x short course world champion. He with these accolades also holds the Open meet record in the 100m Freestyle. He delivered a brilliant performance by clocking a score of 47.39. This record was set by Held in 2019’s Open Meet.
In this race after Held, Maxine Rooney touched the wall in 47.61, taking second place on the podium. In third place was Tate Jackson, who finished the race in 47.88. Interestingly, after four years now, Held ended up losing to Matt King. However, though King clinched the victory in this year’s US Open swimming championships, he didn’t surpass Held’s stellar achievement that Held set in 2019.
