An 18-year-old unnamed student from Pitman High School was reported missing in New Jersey’s Alcyon Lake on Sunday. The incident took place when the boy, along with his friend, went to swim across the lake on Sunday and did not reappear. The friend was quick to dive back and look for him. He even reached out to a bystander who tagged along in his search. Yet, upon receiving no luck, the two called 911.
The Camden County dive unit and Deptford marine units showed up at around 9 p.m. The rescue teams from around the local stations also arrived in no time and began their hunt. As time went by, more people gathered, putting pressure on the agencies and authorities near Alcyon Lake on Cedar and West Holly avenues.

The news of the missing boy, reported by 6abc, has the community in grips. Various dive and marine units spent the entire night spread across the lake. A Pitman municipal official addressed the situation in a statement, saying, ?Many of you may have heard, but there is an active search ongoing for an individual who was reported submerged at Alcyon Lake.? He further mentioned, ?There are multiple agencies involved in this effort, and this extensive search will go on for some time. Please try to avoid the area.? As the word spread, many news agencies were also present near the area to cover the story.

In an Instagram post, Pitman High School announced the cancellation of all exams for 9 to 12 grades and declared a holiday on Monday. The services for all students remained open to seek “emotional support”. The school also “encouraged” the seniors to attend an informal session at the auditorium. The school, however, did not make any public remarks about the situation.

The early search remained unsuccessful despite the tiring efforts to scale the vicinity of the incident. The divers delved deep into the 10-foot deep lake spread across 18 acres. On Monday morning, the authorities returned and continued their search for the missing teen. The officials have asked locals and supporters to avoid gathering near the area until the authorities release further information in the case.
