Sharks are the kings of the sea, and when we humans invade their space, there are some known adverse consequences for us. There has especially been a stark rise in shark attacks on people who are vacationing near the sea. Earlier this year, a 10-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while he was on a family vacation and was swimming in the toasty waters of Mexico.
Swimmers and surfers seem to face the brunt of the wrath of these majestic yet terrifying creatures. Similarly, news has come in that a female vacationer was viciously attacked by a shark while in the ocean at Turks and Caicos. The consequences that the swimmer had to face were dire and frightening.

A trip to Turks and Caicos turned out to be near-deadly for a Connecticut woman as her leg was bitten off in a brutal shark attack. The 22-year-old woman, whose name has not yet been revealed, was on a snorkeling adventure with her friend, who was also traveling with her when the incident took place.
According to a report on the incident by News 8 WTNH, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Department revealed that the women had gone swimming in the waters near the Blu Haven Resort when a shark unleashed its attack on them and the victim’s leg was bitten off.
The unfortunate occurrence took place around 3:07 pm, local time. The emergency services were alerted by an employee of a resort situated around Leeward Marin in Providenciales.
The employee called the Police Control room and requested that an ambulance be sent to the place of the incident. After emergency services responded, the young woman was taken to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in Providenciales, where she is being treated and remains in serious condition for now.
This is not the first time that a relaxing vacation has been marred by the menace of a shark attack.
Swimming on vacation? Beware of sharp teeth
A Colorado boy was attacked while he was swimming in the warm waters of Cancún, Mexico. The 10-year-old, Dillon Armijo, was swimming with his family when a shark came into a wave and bit him. The boy had to undergo several surgeries to be declared stable.
Another swimming adventure turned into a shocking nightmare when a TikTok star, Manni Alam, was bit in the chest while out fishing with his father. These recurring attacks give rise to a pertinent question: do sharks hunt humans?

Experts say that only a handful out of 300 existing shark species are involved in attacks on humans. Humans are usually not a part of the diet of a shark, which comes as a sigh of relief. However, sharks are known to attack humans when they are frightened or hungry.
The general consensus is that sharks don’t specifically hunt humans, and the rise in the number of shark attacks is attributable to the population boom, and hence, more people venturing out into the oceans.
