When Ariarne Titmus defeated Katie Ledecky in the 400-meters, cameras turned to her coach Dean Boxall in the stands. After her sensational victory, Boxall could not contain his excitement as he went into his inner self while shouting and jumping with joy. Thus, this video put him on the map. Known for his perfection, he coached Titmus diligently to give her victory against her rival.

It became so obsessive that the coach stalked Ledecky to learn about her routines, food diet, and other things. The determination to learn from the best, and to be the best, is something to be admired.

Dean Boxall stalked Katie Ledecky

As he prepared Titmus to defeat Ledecky, he opened about following her to learn her tips. Ledecky was always the benchmark and one athlete who inspired people with her talents. Thus, Boxall wanted to take his chances because of his hunger to win the race for Titmus.

“So when we were there, Katie wasn’t there with a coach. So I followed Katie, when she got on the bus I sat behind her, stalking. I watched her on her warm-up and then sat right next to her, right next to team Australia was next to the United States at that stage, and how she did her video analysis, and then sat with my American friends to see what she ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I just wanted to watch what this girl was doing. So I stalked her, in a very good way,” said Boxall.

All the rigorous planning was perfect as she swam a near-perfect race, defeating Ledecky in the 400-meters competition. Ever since she beat her at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, Titmus was on Ledecky’s radar. Hence, her victories in both the 200 and 400-meters freestyle competition elevated her to greater heights. However, Katie took home her signature 800 and 1500-meters to silence her critics.

Titmus, on the other hand, spoke about her coach being passionate about the sport. With the help of Boxall, they took six years to dethrone Ledecky from the podium. Thus, when the moment came, he could not contain his excitement as Titmus spoke about the celebration.

“That’s just the way Dean is. He’s very passionate about what he does and he becomes quite animated. He puts 100% into being a swimming coach and he’s sacrificed a lot of his family life with his kids and his wife for his job,” said Titmus.

Hence, these two would once again team up to break down the barriers at Paris Olympics 2024. After conquering the 400-meters race, the next thing in her mind would be the 800-meters. Can she finally dethrone Ledecky out of that event?
