Florida beaches are a haven for sharks. The majority of the cases happen to surfers riding huge waves near shark-prone areas. However, besides Florida, North Carolina has also recorded a fair share of Shark attacks. North Carolina’s waters are ranked as one of the most dangerous places to swim. The state has also recorded the second-highest number of shark attacks in 2022, trailing behind Florida.

Last year in August, a fisherman not aware of the dangers of North Carolina water decided to take a swim. The 45-year-old Carolina man was faced by dozens of sharks in the water. The fisherman, who suffered a life-threatening injury, shared the horrifying details of the event.

On August 11, a 45-year-old man named Don White decided to take a fishing trip in the waters of North Carolina. White, along with seven family members and friends, reached the Sea Jule around 8:30 in the morning. And after finishing the six-hour fishing trip and catching a few fish, the group of eight decided to head back shore when White?s cousin Jay decided to take a dip in the water. The rest of the group one by one decided to join him leaving White alone in the water. Later, White also decided to join the squad and got into the water.

As White enjoyed the cold water on his heat-prickled skin, suddenly he felt a strong jab in his right leg. The 45-year-old told the media “All of a sudden I felt severe pressure like a strike on my right foot.” White, who started to scan his surroundings, realized he was all alone in the water and 15 feet away from his boat. The water turned red as White tried to get back to walk on the boat ladder.

In an interview with Field and Stream, the 45-year-old stated: “A cloud of blood began to rise around me as I struggled toward the boat ladder. When I got on board, I saw a 12-inch gash running down my right leg.” When the fisherman took a look back into the water, the 45-year-old was struck by horror as he saw around 6?10 large bull sharks swimming in the water, sniffing the blood and searching for the prey. The fisherman did not care much about his injury and stated it to be a” couple of stitches.” But unfortunately, the injury was much worse than he thought.

Don White’s unfortunate shark attack

White, who did not want his family to worry, tried to keep the situation light as the 45-year-old assured his sons “We?ll still have our fish fry tonight”. While his family tried to stop the blood by tying a shirt around the 12-inch injury and tightening it with a belt, creating a tourniquet. White was then immediately taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the predatory beast had done serious harm to the fisherman’s leg muscles. The doctors also revealed that White has shark teeth stuck in his leg and has a chance of losing the leg. After treating his leg all night long and stitching 120 stitches, the doctors were able to save his leg.

White, who has now fully recovered from the injury, has kept the shark tooth with him as proof. As White stated, the teeth were “proof that the fish had a real bite.” Thankfully White was able to reach the boat before the predatory beasts got to him, otherwise, this story would have ended in the worst possible way.
