Michael Phelps and his wife Nicole Johnson open up about their modest marriage

Phelps had a good reason behind the decision to retire from the sport. For one, he was a family man! Therefore, the months leading up to the Beijing Olympics were super hectic for him. The Olympian married the love of his life, Nicole Johnson, on June 13. The couple married in the backyard of their Arizona residence and included only five people as part of the ceremony.

During an interview, Nicole spoke about the special occasion. She said, “We look at June 13 more like we signed our paperwork. There was…how many of us?” To this, Phelps chimed in, “Five of us. In our backyard.”

Indicating the event of their marriage was not as extravagant as their wedding four months later, Johnson added, “We pretty much got married in sweats and ‘jams.
