Being at the top of one’s class is not easy. For one, these people have to work hard to uphold their position. Similarly, it has been a challenging journey for Michael Phelps to earn the top spot in swimming. Although he has proved his mettle numerous times, people still make claims about being able to defeat the athlete.

The swimmer has faced numerous challenges in the past. Some came from fellow athletes, while others originated from people trying to find fame. People have even made claims about their ability to defeat the champion. However, none were as hilarious as when a basketball player compared his swimming skills to the Olympian.
Rising basketball star hilariously compares himself to Michael Phelps
Phelps made his debut at the Olympics in the year 2000. Although he did not win any medal at the meet, he dominated most of his events from the next meet. By 2008, he had already made his mark in the sport, and swimmers looked up to him as an inspiration. The 28-time Olympic medalist retired as the most decorated after returning from Rio 2016.
However, Anthony Edwards made a preposterous claim in 2021. The rising star attended a Summer League game in Las Vegas when studio analyst Monica McNutt interviewed him. The basketball player often hailed by fans as the next Michael Jordan has made hilarious comments in the past too. And he has quite the reputation among fans for his witty remarks.
This has been the most boring offseason in #Timberwolves history and Anthony Edwards magically changed all of that in a mere 60 seconds:

But nothing could have prepared fans for what he said during the interview. When the ACC Network’s analyst asked him about Lake Minnetonka, he replied, “I got baptized in Lake Minnetonka. Hit a couple backflips, you know, swimming. I’m going out there real soon.”
McNutt followed it up by asking the shooting guard if he could swim. And he replied in his usual matter-of-fact way. He said, “Yeah, like Michael Phelps.” To validate what the basketball player said, the sports analyst repeated what he said. And he responded in a resounding, “Yeah.”
Edwards was not the only one with a sense of humor
The Minnesota Timberwolves star was not the only one with a sense of humor at the event. And he found out during the interview itself. As soon as he confirmed his statement about being at par with the five-time Olympian, the analyst made a witty comeback.
