Little things that made Kelly Slater competitive
Kelly Slater was not only competitive in surfing but also, when he was a kid, he was also competitive in sleeping. He talked about how living with his brother helped make him competitive in all kinds of situations.
“Um even sleeping,” Slater said and continued, “Yeah pretty much I guess in some way.”
It looks like the pro surfer’s mind started taking things seriously when he was just a kid. The thing he started competing in was none other than a daily activity: sleeping.

“Somewhat wired that way I mean I had an older brother who just leave me up and told me I couldn’t beat him in anything so,” Slater said and continued, “We competed in just everything we were kids so it was kind of a natural thing and some of the fun and some was kind of serious but you know I was able to be applied to my sport obviously.”
As sibling rivalry is pretty common in the world, Slater also had a rival. He used to compete in everything with his older brother when they were just kids.
It didn’t have any adverse effects on Slater, though. The competitive mindset helped him achieve everything he has right now, and he does cherish it.
