The North American continent is the residence of some of the most thrilling surfing destinations. From Hawaii’s North shore to California’s Oceanside, the U.S. continent covered every wave panorama there is. More so, it also harbors the world’s largest freshwater stream, Lake Superior. Superior is the haven of the gigantic wave barrels that give its pursuers a high-intensity adrenaline rush. However, paddling on Lake Superior in winter is equally harder than trouncing the ferocious Billabong pipeline.

Recently a group of surfers caused a stir in the surfing fraternity by chasing the big waves of Lake Superior in subzero air temperatures. Moreover, the paddlers surfed the barrels with absolute finesse in the 33 degrees Fahrenheit water temperature.

As per the report of NBC News, recently, a large winter storm welted the Midwest and left a snow blanket in many towns. Following this, a group of surfers grabbed the opportunity to paddle on the cold barrels of Lake Superior at Duluth point.

Despite frigid conditions, the surfers went on to chase the freezing barrels on their longboards. The paddlers wore their wet suits, surfed the waves between the Lester river and Brighton beach, and made it to the headlines. Interestingly, it is not the first time when surfers showcased their moxie to surf in such a frosty climate.

Now, as it is insanely difficult to surf in such conditions, the surfers are advised to surf with safety gear or a wet suit. “Without that equipment, you got about two minutes in the water, and you freeze to death”, said Erik. However, wave chasers like Erik and Garet Wilkie are unequivocally skilled in trouncing the frostiness of Lake Superior, don’t you agree?
