The Corona championship is here. This year this World Surf League finals qualifying championship event will begin on 13 July and will last till the 22nd of July. The Corona championship will be held on the Sunshine Coast of J-Bay located at the south end of South Africa. Known for its high-speed waves J-Bay allows staunch surfers to paint the canvas with multiple moves, including backflips, points, and Kitchen Windows.
This year the Corona Championship 2023 will bring out famous surfers from all around the world to tackle the huge swells, including three-time surfing league champion Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina. Gabriel Medina, who did not participate in the 2022 championship, is seeming to be looking forward to this competition. In an Instagram video, the surfer showed the fans a glimpse of his preparation for the Corona Championship.

On Tuesday, the Brazilian surfer posted an Instagram reel with ninja emojis in the caption while tagging video creator Lucas Balbiono. In the video, Gabriel Medina can be seen gliding over the water while performing strong moves, including backflips. Aside from that, the fans also caught a glimpse of surfers’ intense workout regime. In the video, Medina was seen working on his legs and arms by doing plunges and weightlifting.

With the adrenaline fueled video, Gabriel Medina seems ready to take part in this year’s surfing championship. The three-time World surfing champion going for his third title is also a treat for the fans, as the surfer took a long on-and-off hiatus from surfing in 2021 due to personal reasons.

Medina not participating in the championships due to personal reasons
Gabriel Medina, who made history by becoming the first 17-year-old to win the World Cup, did not participate in the 2022 Championship due to personal reasons. After winning the 2021 championship, the surfer, due to his very public divorce from his wife and falling off with his family, was in a bad mental state. To deal with his issues, Medina took a short break from surfing. Since then, the surfer participated for the first time in the Indonesia SFL Championship in May 2022. However, in the middle of the 2022 championship, the athlete backed off the game as he realized he wasn’t ready to perform against the top surfers right now.

In an interview, the surfer stated, “I’m not in a place where I can believe I can perform against the world’s best surfers right now, and I need to focus on my well-being.” Now, after long personal. Journey and on-and-off break from the sport, the athlete is back to show his magic on the water. And fans hope to see Medina win his fourth World Surfing championship title this time.
