The thrilling water sport combines the excitement of surfing with the wake generated by a boat. Unlike wakeboarding, the surfer is no longer far away from the boat, but nearer and more likely to tip over the board, than have a serious fall.

Studee added his own twist to the sport, by introducing a new technique – a 3-foot stilt board that he made himself. This setup involved attaching two wakeboards on top of each other using a stilt, resulting in a challenging and thrilling wakesurfing experience. According to UNREEL, Sam initially faced some difficulties and fell off the stilt a few times. With relentless effort and numerous attempts, he successfully mastered the stilt board, bringing a whole new level of excitement to the world of wake surfing.

Unlike traditional water sports like water skiing or wakeboarding, wake surfers drop the tow rope once they are up on the wake. They then ride the steep face below the wave’s peak, mimicking the experience of surfing ocean waves. Riders typically use specially designed wakesurfing boards that allow them to navigate and perform tricks on the wave. This exhilarating sport combines elements of surfing, skateboarding, and wakeboarding, providing riders with a unique and dynamic experience on the water.

The origins of wakesurfing are disputed, with claims dating back to the 1920s. However, credible evidence is lacking. In the 1950s and 1960s, surfers were seen riding surfboards behind motorboats in print publications. Wake-specific boards emerged in the mid-1960s, and the sport continued to evolve alongside the shortboard revolution. Tow ropes and foot straps led to the development of skurfing, ski boarding, and wakeboarding.
