Sometimes while diving and surfing or merely exploring the sea, the surfers discover something unpredicted in the sea. Many times, the items they find are small chunks of history. There are plenty of ocean hunters who explore the so-called ‘treasure’ of the sea. Along similar lines, in June, an Australian surfer Matt Cuddihy found something rare in the sea that instantly became viral on social media.

The surfer was paddling and riding the huge waves of Noosa situated in the coastal area of Queensland, Australia. As he is fond of surfing, he discovers many things underwater, mostly surfboard fins, snorkels, etc., but this time, the surfer touched something rare and special: a Rolex Submariner ref. 5513. The viral story spread all over the internet and netizens were intrigued instantly. They asked numerous questions about the ownership of the watch and will Cuddihy sell it or not. All of this confusion is answered now when Cuddihy found the owner of the watch, Ric who had a whole history of his Rolex and surfing.

Recently, Cuddihy finally tracked down the owner of the watch. Since the news went viral on social media, Ric could recognize his long-lost watch now. According to the Surfer, Cuddihy said, he never wanted to sell the watch since it belonged to somebody and he was sure that the watch has a long history. All he wanted is just a reunion with the owner of the watch.

And soon enough, Cuddihy received a message that said, “Hey Matt. If that watch has a special inscription on the back, it is mine. I contacted the police after I lost it and Rolex to see if it was found and cleaned up. I might be able to get it back because it has very special memories for me. Ric.” When Cuddihy checked the watch, there was actually an inscription at the back that approved its ownership to Ric. A watch enthusiast website ‘Fratello’ illustrated the whole history behind the watch and the very special journey of it, and how all this began with surfing.

Surfing and the lost watch’s connection is miraculous

The story begins in 1971 when Ric was 18 years old. His father gifted this special Rolex to celebrate his victory in a local sailing race. After that, Ric always used to wear his favorite watch during surfing, sailing, or skiing in Switzerland. His watch has experienced the same adventures as Ric. but in 2019, the day arrived when this beautiful story took a turn and Ric lost his watch while surfing in Noosa. It was not the best day for surfing as well. As Ric said, he felt preoccupied and the swell was also small. When he was riding the 2 feet wave, he swiped his hand on the rope on his knee and the rope ripped the Velcro band of the watch and it dropped in the water. But Ric did not realize it, “I didn’t even realize what had happened.”
