The Wallex US Open entered its bracket event on Friday. Surfers have started to compete in a single-set battle on Huntington Beach. After dealing with low waves and fighting their way through the initial stages of the heats, 16 top-tier sets of surfers made their way toward the bracket event.

And on the first day, of the bracket event, a 22-year-old surfing prodigy made his name in the WSL Quarterfinals. Brazilian surfer Mateus Hardy showed some staunch moves in a two-man battle on Pier Beach. A video of his moves has also been released on social media.

Mateus Herdy shows  off incredible surfing skills

While participating in the Bracket event of the WSL on Friday, Brazilian surfer Mateus Herdy with total points of 13.27 sealed his name in the WSL semifinals. The 22-year-old who went against Brazilian surfer Michael Rodrigues showed incredible moves on the calm waves of Huntington Beach including the highest score of 7.17 in the match.

After his win, WSL also posted a reel of his highest scoring round with the caption, ‘WSL Mateus Herdy takes to the air and lands himself a spot in the Wallex US Open Surfing Quarterfinals! It was his move that sealed his victory in the battle.

In the video, the surfer was seen scoring a 7.17 in his third round, putting him way ahead of his opponent. With a wave range of 1-4’ and calm conditions, 17 rounds were surfed in total by the Brazilian surfers in the battle. And although it was Rodrigues who surfed 59% of the waves, Herdy was able to secure his win by just participating in 7 rounds. The match started and ended with Herdy dominating the waves.

Herdy maintains his dominance in the surfing battle

The first round at the pier started with Herdy scoring a score of 5.93 on the waves, while Rodrigues could only score a 2.33 on the waters. In the second round, Herdy dropped his score to what seemed to be the lowest of the battle at that time, 0.77. But, Rodrigues, who could not take full advantage of the dropped stats, scored 3.00 in his second round. And in the third round, Mateus Herdy sealed his win by grabbing his surfboard in the air and riding out the wave clean, scoring the highest score of the battle a clean 7.17.

While Rodrigues, who was still struggling to score above 5, scored a 3.13 on his third wave. To further his case, Herdy scored a 6.10 in his 7th round and dropped his board. Rodrigues, who still had a hope to win the match, surfed the 10 rounds but could not match the 24-year-old’s score. After a half-hour-long battle, Rodriguez, with 11.40 points, with 6.40 and 5.00 as his best score, settled for the 9th position and was eliminated from the contest. And Herdy, with a top-notch 13.27 score with 7.17 and 6.10, as his best in the competition, paved his way to the quarterfinals in Heat 2.
