“He Was Gushing Blood Like Crazy”: Shocking Great White Shark Attack on a Surfer, Left Joe Rogan Terrified Once

The sport of surfing paves the way for everyone who seeks thrill within its infinity. Whether it is the adrenaline rush residing within the wave barrels or the potential energy resting on the big wave pinnacles, the turquoise water has covered it all. However, besides the thrill lodging on the surface, there is a multitude of dangers lurking beneath the deep blue tarmac. Undeniably, one of the most vicious surfing hazards on the list is a shark attack which can have fatal consequences. This is why the UFC color commentator and podcaster, Joe Rogan, once got utterly terrified after hearing about the fiasco caused by a great white shark in Hawaii.

In December 2022, the iconic big wave rider, Shane Dorian, graced his presence in an episode of the Joe Rogan Podcast. While speaking about his beloved sport, Dorian shared an anecdote of a ruthless shark attack to which his close friend fell prey. However, the tale of bloody waters and lacerations left Rogan petrified to the core.

In the 1749th episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the Hawaiian surfing prodigy pulled off the curtains from the havoc caused by shark attacks. To explain the mayhem that the ocean’s predators spawn, Dorian gave the example of his close acquaintance who brutally got lacerated by the beast. The big wave rider recalled, “one of my friends got bit by a shark less than a week ago.” 

The 50-year-old added, “He is still in the ICU. He’s still in the hospital. It shredded his forearm pretty much completely”. On this, Rogan got startled and exclaimed, “Oh! Jesus”. The Hawaiian surfer then shared several tidbits about how the predator attacked his friend. “Just nails him and takes him underwater. His board is gone, and he was gushing blood like crazy”, added Dorian. But how did he make it to the shore?

To everyone’s relief, a girl present at the scene saved the life of the wounded surfer by helping him paddle back to the safety of the shore. Explaining the rescue operation performed by the woman, Dorian conceded, “she was on top of her board paddling. He swam under her board and held her board, and she tried to paddle him to the beach. She took off her leash and wrapped it tightly around his arm as a tourniquet”. He then appreciated the moxie of the woman surfer, by adding, “Fully saved his life”. It indeed was one callous surfing mishap. Not just Joe Rogan but the ferocious episode also left the fandom of the Joe Rogan Experience in utter shock.
