“Two of My Fingers Were Hanging Off”: Surfer’s Bloody Encounter With Shark Once Caught in Horror Footage

Amidst all perils of surfing, news of recurrent shark attacks has seemed to heighten over time. Besides, the experiences narrated by the athletes on social media accumulate significant attention and popularity from fans. Similarly, a South African surfer’s experience with two great white sharks mauling him underwater at the Nahoon Reef, went viral on the internet in 2021. 

In a chilling TikTok video by the surfer, Shannon Ainslie, he once recounted the grim details of his escapade. One of the sharks bumped against him and sent him flying in the air, while Ainslie had an immersive face-to-face encounter with the other. Let’s find out about the consequences of the incident. 

Shannon Ainslie’s Jaws-esque encouter

As per the social media update, Aisle then 15, planned to surf at the infamous reef with his brother and friends after school. The incident took place in July 2000, which left the young surfer traumatized. “Two of my fingers were hanging off and I ended up with 30 stitches and a bite in my surfboard,” he revealed in the video. 

Furthermore, the footage effectively gave the creeps when the surfer was seen toppling over his board in between the two sharks circling him. Thus, he detailed,  “It bit my surfboard and my hand and dragged me underwater with it.” Speaking of the whereabouts of the other shark, Ainslie hinted that it was the one that swam right in front of his face and left without any repercussions.

Apparently, Ainslie’s brother and friends had gotten out off the water after they traced the scent of sardines lingering, which is apparently a sign that sharks could possibly be around. Unfortunately, the surfer was too determined to chase the swells, and soon found himself amid the double danger. The sharks were to be four meters each, by his reckoning. Surprisingly, he got out alive; swam to the shore, and has lived on to tell the tale. By the same token, another video of a surfer fighting for his life from a shark’s mouth has surfaced on the platform. 

Surfer escaped from the clutches of a massive shark 

Another footage of a similar attack displayed a surfer being chased by a white shark. The surfer was unconscious of the predator advancing towards him, however, the person who took the footage explained the scenario as “A shark is charging up the wave straight at him. It opens its poisonous jaws and tries to swallow him whole.”

The surfer was riding a giant wave and glided through the waters at a lightning pace. Luckily, the shark wasn’t able to get a hold of him thus, planning his swift escape.
