According to AP News, the soon-to-be 90 surfer was deemed the ‘Oldest Male to Surf’ by the Guinness World Records. However, he doesn’t stop at that. “Maybe I’ll try bouldering,” Sano implied. Although, he is cautious of the extremities of such sports and wished to practice it in a gym first. “Outside it might be a bit dangerous,” he asserted.
Interestingly, bungee jumping couldn’t make it to his list since he marked it as “too scary.” Particularly, Sano is hooked on surfing and intends to pursue it until he’s a centenarian. “I think it would be interesting to try to surf until I’m 100,” he said. He revealed that indulging in such activities encourages him to take better care of himself.
Sano can be spotted catching waves at the black-sand beach alongside Enoshima, which hosted the sailing category for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, on weekends. Reportedly, the elderly citizen was inspired by a bank employee, who always sported a tan. Thus, he followed up on him and found himself a coach, Kazuto Shimizu. “I don’t consider myself an old man…I always feel that I can still move forward. I can still do it. I can still enjoy it,” he claimed.
