Recently, pictures of Andrew Garfield surfing at a Malibu beach went viral. Well, this might come as a surprise, but Andrew Garfield loves to surf. In fact, surfing is a big part of his life. Not only Malibu, but Garfield has also graced the waves of places like Bali and Sydney. Basically, seems like everywhere he goes he jumps right into the ocean.

For him, surfing is a connection to reality, something just for himself. He finds it a privilege to be able to indulge in something he loves so much. And because he adores surfing, it’s not a surprise that he loves his surfboard as well.

Andrew Garfield Thinks Surfboards Are Like Art

In an interview with British GQ, he was asked about 10 essential things that he cannot live without. Andrew Garfield included his surfboard as one of them. “This is something that I’ve been riding and it’s just elegantly beautiful,” he said. In fact, he loves it so much, it stays in his bedroom with him. He revealed, “I keep this one in my bedroom, you know like, this one sleeps next to me.”

Who knew Garfield’s love affair with his Surfboard, and Surfing, was this intense? Garfield is obsessed with surfboards, and it is clear that he very much enjoys the sport. He feels that “surfboards are pieces of art unto themselves.”

But surfing is not only a way to pass time for him. It is a discipline as much as it is a recreational activity. Andrew Garfield respects surfing and has made it an essential part of his life. According to him, “To have the time and the space to be able to pursue something just for the sake of doing it, I feel very grateful for. And that is essential. We do need those things that are for no one else but for ourselves and our own growth and spirit and connection to reality.”

Surfing had such an impact on Andrew Garfield’s life, that he couldn’t help but share that with other people. According to Glamour magazine, Garfield once taught autistic kids how to surf while he was on a trip to Sydney.

Garfield Taught Autistic Kids How to Surf

Garfield played Spiderman once, so he does not need another reason for kids to go gaga over him. But back in 2014, he got together with Joel Parkinson, a professional surfer, to teach autistic children how to surf. The event was organized by Hunter Connect-Surfing for Autism and took place at Bondi Beach. As if this was not sweet enough, he made use of a spiderman surfboard to do the teaching.
