Until now, except for his age, nothing much was known about the victim. However, now that the community is slowly overcoming the shock, more information about him has been revealed. As per reports on People, the man was a Haiku native by the name of Jason “Jay” Carter. The Hawaii Police chose to hide his identity to give themselves time to inform the family of the terrible incident. Mail Online, who spoke to the first responders on the scene, had more information. The Maui Police Department issued a public statement saying, “Once onshore, life-saving measures were performed by first responder personnel until medic personnel arrived to transport the male to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment”.
Jason Carter did not respond to the doctor’s treatments and passed away on the same day at 5.30 pm. Jason Carter was the eighth shark attack victim of 2023, which has sparked frustration in the community.
