Surfing is overall considered to be a safe sport unless the waves are rowdy or there is a shark lurking nearby. Falling into the crashing waves might have the element of an initial shock, but it still beats having one’s head bashed in by hard trains. Train surfing, though, has this ever-present danger that can prove to be fatal. Train surfing is illegal, and dangerous, and has been responsible for ending many lives.

Some might describe it as a sport, but in reality, it’s an irresponsible act that has taken many lives, most of them young. Train surfing, also known as tram surfing, is the act of riding on the exterior parts of a moving train. It is as menacing as it sounds. Recently, this activity showed its vicious characteristics, after a young flame was extinguished.

A 15-year-old boy was killed in a tragic train surfing accident. The boy was train surfing with his friends around 1:00 p.m in Staten Island on a Wednesday afternoon when the incident took place. After the Annadale stop, however, he decided to climb on the top of the car all on his lonesome. According to the police, after climbing on the top of the train, the teenager hit an overhead structure, which resulted in a traumatic and fatal injury.

The Tottenville High School student was then removed from the top of the train at the Eltingville stop. The teenager was in critical condition as he was taken to the Staten Island University Hospital North. Unfortunately, the injuries were too grave and the boy succumbed to them in the hospital. The subway officials have time and again urged the masses to not indulge in dangerous activities such as tram surfing. This is not a one-off incident, as there have been numerous reports of children and young adults getting seriously injured, or worse, losing their life, because of this dangerous stunt.
