Out of all the rescue operations associated with any sport, surfing rescues have to be the most difficult to carry out. With no hard and fast place to land, harsh weather conditions, and the tormenting spray of the sea, the adversities are endless. As hard as surfing rescues are, they are also that much common.
It’s easy for a surfer to get stranded in the sea, sometimes due to the weather, other times, just getting stuck in the high surf. Most of the time, jet skis are the choice of instrument to save distressed people. However, sometimes a jet ski just does not cut it. What do we use then?

A 20-year-old boy surfing off the coast of Bolivar Beach in Texas had to be rescued from the roiling sea using a helicopter. The surfer was pushed deep into the sea by the high waves and the strong winds. According to a press release by the U.S. Coast Guard, a call was received by the officials around 4:00 p.m., informing about a surfer in distress. The unfortunate wave-rider had been pushed offshore by 8-foot seas and winds that were running at 34 mph.
The surfer’s father, in a valiant effort to rescue his son, tried to tie a fishing line around his waist and attempted to pull his son out of the merciless sea. However, the same could not be possible as he could not swim the long distance to reach his son. The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston, understanding the urgency of the situation, immediately re-routed an already-airborne MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to go and rescue the stuck 20-year-old, lest something worse happen.

The video, also released by the Coast Guard, showed the rescue. A coast guard official was lowered down to the sea, where the surfer was trying to stay afloat. The official then reached the surfer and put a rope around him so that he could be pulled up along with the rescuer. Soon, both of them were lifted out of the water, the stranded surfer clearly happy to be out of the water. His father was safely reeled to the shore by a family member.
