In December 2021, Shark attack survivor Erika Lane took to her YouTube channel to share her story. Posting the video, Lane shared a clip of the attack she had survived, along with pictures of the injury she had sustained. With a voiceover in the video, she revealed, “I am thankfully okay. I was attacked by a shark. I was out wing foiling and I was heading back towards the shore; I felt large creatures swimming beneath me, I could feel the turbulence of them swimming underneath the foil and then something grabbed me and pulled the foil and board out from under me.”

She continued, “As you can see in the pictures I’ve shared, as soon as I hit the water, I was bitten. It was more scary than painful, and then I saw the flash of a shark’s face and jaws go right towards my face right past me.” Soon after this, Lane jumped on top of her wing by instinct. The big red wing kept her afloat above the water and out of the frenzy.

She thinks it might’ve been because of the foil. However, Erika Lane did not let one incident deter her spirits and went back to surfing the very next day. Moreover, this isn’t the first time a shark attempted to turn a human into its food.
