The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, as spectacular as it is, has also been the prime spot for committing suicide over the years. It once again served as the location for an unfortunate incident that almost claimed the lives of two surfing enthusiasts, although it wasn’t a suicide. The two surfers were simply swept out to the open sea near the bridge. This is when the San Francisco Fire Department had to step in for a rescue operation.
San Francisco Fire Department, National Park Service, United States Coast Guard, and San Francisco Police Department Marine Division had together responded to the reports of such an incident at around 9 am on Saturday. The two surfers were almost swept three-quarters of a mile from the shore.

During high tides, the water body provides an element of novelty to surfing at this spot, but it also makes the same waters extremely dangerous. Dangerous enough to sweep off any surfers from the coast to the center in a matter of seconds, as these two surfers experienced.

Boats, Helicopters, Marine One – How they rescued both the surfers?
The Fire Department received the call at around 9:27 am and rescue swimmers from National Park Service and San Francisco Fire Department were deployed to bring those two surfers back. They ended up making contact with the surfers, who were safe and sound but terrified. The San Francisco Police Department Marine One, San Francisco Fire Department Rescue Boat One, and the United States Coast Guard helicopter had to all arrive at the scene to rescue these two surfers. This happens about a month after a coast guard from Air Station Astoria rescued a surfer stranded on rocks in north Oregon.
