Surrounded by the Pacific ocean and about 2,000 miles away from the U.S. mainland, Hawaii is the safe haven for surfers and sea pursuers. More so, because of its idyllic location and wave spectacles, the Aloha state is recognized as one of the favorite tourist destinations in the world. Now, to attract more vacationers and big barrel spectators, the Wai Kai Lagoon inland on West Oahu recently added a 100-foot wide deep-water standing-wave arena to its Hoakalei resort in Ewa beach. However, netizens and West Oahu locals expressed their dismay with the latest development.
The $112 million commercial complex constructed along the Wai Kai shoreline represents an artificial wave attraction, along with a surfing pool. Nonetheless, to welcome more economic opportunities and community benefits, the Ewa beach resort added the deep-water standing wave pool to its domain. Following its construction, Oahu natives and folks from the surfing fraternity voiced their concerns regarding the potable water, as the availability of clean drinking water is already a huge agenda on the Hawaiian island.
