Is Cole Taschman a true surfing legend, or should he heed the shark warnings?

Cole Taschman is one of the most avid surfers you can find in the US. His daily routine includes a regular trip down to the bathtub beach in Florida. However, on October 25, Cole had one of the biggest scares of his life. Trying to pay respect to one of their deceased friends Cole, along with Zach Bucolo and Hunter Roland strolled down to the beach. After reminiscing about their demised friend, the trio decided to go out surfing.

Initially, everything looked normal as Taschman and his friends seemed to be riding the water and having fun. Recording them from far away was Ana Peci, the fiancee of Taschman. Unfortunately, the favorable atmosphere soon turned adverse as Taschman had a concerning sensation on his feet. He felt what seemed like a bull or a tiger shark of approximately eight feet in length was trying to nibble his feet!

Panicking in fear, Taschman struggled to escape the grasp of the beast. Luckily for him, when a big wave came, he managed to ride on it and swim back to safety. With blood gushing out, Taschman limped his way to the shore, where his fiancee rushed to him with a towel. Thankfully, the surfer did not lose his toes. But the experience made him make a major career decision. This was the second time he encountered a shark attack at the same spot.

Thus, learning a valuable lesson, Taschman stated, “I can definitely tell you that I’m not going to be surfing out at Bathtub Beach again.” Surely, this was a call of intelligence from the otherwise fearless surfer. After being rushed to the Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital in Stuart, Taschman was transferred to the St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Shark experts Dr. Robert Borrego and Dr. Ibrahim Jabbour took Taschman under their guidance. He received a couple of surgeries and 93 stitches to get out of danger.

However, after his second face-off with a shark, Taschman’s family naturally did not want him to go back into the waters again. But as fearless a surfer Cole Taschman was, it was next to impossible to have him worried.

Have an interesting take?

Cole Taschman was just 16 years old when he was first bit by a shark. Leaving an everlasting scar on his right hand, Taschman did not back out from soaking in the thrill of riding the waves. Thus, after his second attack, when his mom and fiancee asked him to stop surfing, Taschman was unfazed. Idolizing Bethany Hamilton, Taschman stated, I wouldn’t care if I got my arm ripped off. You’re not getting me out of the water… Sorry, mom. Chill out.”

He then went on to say, “I don’t think you can find a surfer that’s ever been bit, that it’s ever stopped them… I mean, you can look at Bethany Hamilton, and she had her arm bit off. She’s still one of the top girls in the world, (an) inspiration to women’s athletes across the world.” Thus, despite being pegged back by sharks twice, Cole Taschman remains a hard nut to crack. Having decided not to visit Bathtub Beach again, it now remains to be seen what new adventures await Cole Taschman next.
