An experienced surfer saved a drowning family from their impending doom. The incident took place one month ago when Darren Kiwi, a surfing practitioner, was enjoying his usual day in Arataki. While aiming for a big wave, he saw a family of three struggling to get to the shore. Realizing the catastrophe, the surfer jumped to rescue them. The family would have faced a “dire situation” was it not for the surfer, who appeared like an angel to save them.
Mount Maunganui is infamous among swimmers for its randomly huge and strong waves.

Mount Maunganui, in New Zealand, witnessed this tragedy. Kiwi, 52, was on a ride when he saw a man and his two children “dumped” by the big wave. He exclaimed, “So I jumped back on my surfboard, paddled over to them and got a hold of the young girl. The father and the brother were out there as well, so managed to get a hold of them and just keep them all together actually.” Though Kiwi was able to save the daughter, the father and son were swimming along to the shore.

This is not the first time that islands around New Zealand are facing life-threatening incidents. Just some days before, a devastated lifeguard warned people about the deaths and untraced persons. He cautioned, “No matter how far you have to walk to get there or how crowded a beach is — always swim at lifeguarded-patrolled beaches and between the flags.”

Just a few days ago, Kelly Slater also shared his concern for the increasing number of sea accidents and now another one took place. Kiwi is also vocal about ocean disasters and offers help to the life-saving crew.
However, the family is safe and sound and eventually contacted their lifesaver through Facebook. Kiwi, on the other hand, felt fantastic to gift another special Christmas to the family. He is happy to use his 35 years of experience for good.
